Divided into two sections, this exhibition focuses on Picasso’s influence on artistic practices in today’s world and on the current globalized art scene. The first section includes works by Picasso and artists who acknowledged his influence on their practice, such as Francis Bacon, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Louise Bourgeois, Martin Kippenberger, Willem de Kooning and Maria Lassnig. The second section centres on contemporary creators such as Claire Tabouret and Rashid Johnson.

The project offers a dream-like journey through the echoes of Pablo Picasso’s remarkable experiments and touches on different periods, styles and generations. In this sense, the exhibition includes a selection of influential works by the artist himself and functions like an echo in an enclosed space, exploring the visual experience of these resonances through exceptional loans of works by 50 artists from the 1920s to the present.

Curated by French art critic and exhibition curator Eric Troncy, The Echo of Picasso is part of the international programme Picasso Celebration 1973-2023.
