On 27 October 2023 the Museo Picasso Málaga (MPM) will celebrate its 20th anniversary during a year coinciding with the 50th anniversary of the artist’s death. Two major exhibitions, part of “Picasso Celebration 1973-2023”, will mark this double anniversary:

Picasso: matter and body (9 May – 10 September 2023) will be the first major exhibition of Picasso’s sculptures to be held in Spain. Curated by Carmen Gimenez, the MPM’s first director, this selection of sculptures will survey the range of styles employed by Picasso to expand the forms of the human body, in all formats, genres and materials: wood, iron, plaster, cement, steel, bronze and steel.

Subsequently, the MPM will present The Echo of Picasso (3 October 2023 – 24 March 2024). Curated by French art critic and exhibitions curator Eric Troncy, the exhibition will focus on Picasso’s long-lasting influence on the art of the 20th and 21st centuries with works by around thirty international artists in dialogue with Picasso.

In parallel, the MPM’s permanent display will be renewed with two “Dialogue” proposals curated by Michael FitzGerald and the Fundación Almine y Bernard Ruiz-Picasso para el Arte (FABA).
