For the first time in the history of museum gugging, an art brut artist with close ties to the institution, Leopold Strobl (b. 1960, Austria), is invited to the 60th International Art Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia, curated by Adriano Pedrosa, entitled “Stranieri Ovuque – Foreigners Everywhere.”

This year, the museum gugging is featuring Strobl in two important presentations: the first one within its new presentation “gugging.! classic & contemporary UPDATE” (February 3, 2024–March 1, 2026) with an entire room comprising 45 works by the artist. The second one within the upcoming exhibition “fantastic places.! walla | strobl | vondal | fink.” (September 12, 2024–March 16, 2025).

Leopold Strobl has been making art since he was a child. He began working at the atelier gugging in 2002, since 2019 he works at home in Poysdorf and Kritzendorf (Austria). The galerie gugging has represented the artist since 2016, and his work has been exhibited at the museum gugging since 2021. His works are in the collections of MoMA (USA), Treger/Saint Silvestre Art Brut Collection (Portugal), abcd ART BRUT Collection (France) and the State Collections of Lower Austria.
