Compiled by the celebrated art historian and writer Gary Schwartz, this exhibition explores the range of insights and theories concerning the painting of emotions in the Dutch Golden Age.

With more than 50 exceptional loans from major international collections, Emotions: Pain and Pleasure in Dutch Painting of the Golden Age reveals the methods used by Dutch painters of the 16th and 17th centuries to produce believable portrayals of suffering and despair, love and lust, joy and gaiety.

From history paintings to genre works and portraits, Emotions offers a selection of exceptional works by Dutch masters including Pieter Lastman, Rembrandt, Jan Steen, Frans van Mieris along with Frans Hals.
