Martin Margiela

Sotheby's Paris
Exhibition: 20 - 25 September 2019
Online Sale: 19 September - 1 october 2019

"Faceless" designer Martin Margiela is one of the very few in his field to have achieved a unique renewal in the world of contemporary fashion. He has never given an interview, his refined white brand label carries no logo and his radical approach investigates the construction of garments by deconstructing them.

With this exhibition and single high-profile sale, Sotheby's Paris will unveil a collection of 220 items of clothing and accessories from a private collection.

Revisiting Margiela's most iconic creations from 1989 to 2006, the sale will offer ready-to-wear pieces, limited editions and iconic items among which: the linen jacket of the spring-summer 1997 Stockman collection (estimate: 7,000-9,000 €), 40 limited edition pieces from the Artisanal collection (estimate: 5,000-7,000 €) and the legendary men's vest assembled from playing cards, only five of which were ever created (estimate: 8,000-10,000 €).
