Generative AI can now create images from text alone, challenging photography's traditional connection to reality and reshaping artistic creation by placing language at its core.

For this exhibition project, French-Swiss photographer Mathieu Bernard-Reymond (b. 1976) was invited to explore how traditional photographic techniques might interact with artificial intelligence. To do so, Bernard-Reymond collaborated with Mouvement Studio to design an AI-embedded camera. This device records and interprets the photographer's spoken reflections while taking a picture, allowing users to "murmur" their aspirations and blend human intention with machine processing. Rather than simply presenting AI as dehumanizing or invisible, the project treats it as a tangible extension of photographic history, examining how artists can collaborate with, resist, or subvert generative systems. It offers a balanced perspective on both the creative possibilities and the limitations of AI.

Alongside his critically acclaimed artistic work—including the HSBC Prize (2003) and the Arcimboldo Award for Digital Photography (2009)—Bernard-Reymond teaches digital technology at CEPV Vevey, sharing his expertise and passion for image innovation.

The exhibition is supported by the Friends of the Swiss Camera Museum, the Canton de Vaud, the Givel Foundation, the Loterie Romande and Pro Helvetia - Swiss Arts Council.
