Marvel:
Creating the Cinematic Universe

27 May - 3 September 2017
Gallery of Modern Art (GOMA) | Brisbane, Australia

Marvel: Creating the Cinematic Universe will be Australia's first major Marvel exhibition and the largest to ever be presented in an art museum worldwide.

It will include more than 400 objects ranging from comic books, costumes, props and spectacular set design, to concept and key-frame art, clips from the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) films, CGI and other interactives.

Curated by QAGOMA’s Amanda Slack-Smith, the exhibition profiles characters including Thor, Iron Man, Captain America, Hulk, Black Widow, Hawkeye and others, and gives significant focus to the creative artists who translate the drawn narrative to the screen through production design and storyboarding, costume and prop design, and special effects and postproduction.

Throughout the exhibition, the Australian Cinémathèque at GOMA will screen a retrospective of the official Marvel Cinematic Universe films, from the breakthrough Iron Man (2008) to this year’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2.
