Amélie Bertrand (b. 1985, France) creates meticulously composed paintings that transform familiar landscapes into dreamlike, unsettling spaces. Using motifs such as architectural materials, foliage, camouflage, and neon signs, she combines flawless surfaces, flattened perspectives, and luminous gradients to create psychological environments suspended between reality and abstraction. Often described as bridging artistic tradition and contemporary visual culture, Bertrand’s work has been widely exhibited and is represented in major public collections.

This fall, the Musée de Valence presents Neon Club, a major solo exhibition featuring approximately thirty works, most of them created specifically for the exhibition. New motifs—including curtains, storefront windows, and neon waves—expand Bertrand’s visual vocabulary while exploring mysterious, liminal spaces. Inspired in part by the museum’s architecture, several paintings incorporate elements such as its spiral staircase and stone walls. Scenographic interventions—including pink-tinted windows, floor projections, and architectural alterations—immerse visitors in Bertrand’s painted worlds, transforming the exhibition into a physical experience in which viewers move through spaces that would otherwise exist only on canvas.
