In his paintings, Anthony Cudahy (b.1989, Florida) combines a wide variety of references: masterpieces of European art, queer archives, gay iconography, and personal and family narratives.

With Conversation, the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Dole will stage his first exhibition in a French institution, showing 20 of his recent paintings in dialogue with selected anonymous or unattributed oeuvres from the museum’s archives: idealized landscapes, nudes, scenes of violence and still life, paintings that are generally narrative in nature with no particular preference in period or style. A dialogue which reintegrates works, rarely or never taken out of storage, into a new regime of visibility.

Anthony Cudahy lives and works in Brooklyn, New York. Co-director of the editorial project “Slow Youth”, he is active in various collectives and is the author of numerous artists’ books. He has enjoyed exhibitions in the USA and UK, notably at the 1969 Gallery, the Deli Gallery and Perrotin (New York). He is the curator of the exhibition The Minotaur’s Daydream on show at Galerie Semiose (Paris, France) until March 2023.
