What is a garden, a habitat, a sphere, a cave? In collaboration with the Kunsthaus Graz, German artist and film-maker Hito Steyerl (b. 1966) presents an installation in Space01’s dark dome that grows and interlocks on both digital and physical levels.

In the wake of pulsating images, digital rhythms and sounds, Steyerl invites the public to speculate on the relationship between language and aesthetic form, technological structure and power-preserving systems.

Known for her sharp analyses of our highly technological society, Steyerl creates many-layered, intertwined installations with multiple, partially interactive, narratives. In her work, ‘reality is expanded by technology’ and engages both critically and subversively with ecological systems and their ties to globalization, to migration and participation in existing power structures. Playing with the manipulative power of the image, Steyerl engages in an institutional critique that extends far beyond the museum.
