Pirelli HangarBicocca | Milan, Italy

For her first exhibition in Milan, Berlin-based artist Leonor Antunes (b. Lisbon 1972) will present new works as well as a site-specific installation in Pirelli HangarBicocca's Shed space.

Engaging with the specificities of the local context, the exhibition will reflect on the Modernist tradition in Milan, and particularly on pioneering architects and designers such as Franco Albini, Franca Helg and GiĆ² Ponti, whose work will inspire a series of floor, hanging, and standing pieces.

The exhibition will also include rearrangements of existing works that pay homage to other female architects, artists and designers including Clara Porset, Anni Albers and Mary Martin.

Using traditional materials and employing ancient artisan or manual techniques, Antunes creates elegant sculptures and installations that investigate the significance of everyday objects, while exploring the social role of art and design as means to improve living conditions.
