With the exhibition "L. E. & O. T. The design of reality is unsatisfactory.”, the works of the great art brut artist, Oswald Tschirtner (1920 - 2007), who lived in the House of Artists in Gugging from 1981 until his death, combine with the sculptures of Loys Egg (b.1947, Switzerland) who has a long interest in the Gugging Artists.
Tschirtner initially wanted to embrace priesthood but preferred to be in silence. Egg is a free spirit and a rock musician, and their works blend to display a striking and joyful togetherness. With Nina Katschnig and Irina Katnik from the galerie gugging curatorial team, Egg thoroughly researched Tschirtner’s creative treasures from all periods to find surprising harmonies between their two works.
Tschirtner, who was awarded the Oskar Kokoschka Prize in 1990, was a master of minimalist formal language and famous for his reduced figures without characteristic attributes such as clothing or gender. Egg’s line sculptures encounter them with lightness, joy and humor.
