Pipilotti Rist (b. 1962, Grabs, Switzerland) is one of the most influential video artists of the past three decades. Her practice emerged in the 1980s, drawing on music videos, popular culture, emerging technologies, and feminist video art to create a distinctive visual language characterized by intense color, sensuality, and emotional immersion.
Pipilotti Rist: Ever Is Over All is centered on the artist’s iconic 1997 two-channel video installation, originally presented at the 47th Venice Biennale, where it brought her international recognition. The work shows a woman in a blue dress calmly walking through Zurich and smashing parked car windows with a large tropical flower, while a second projection reveals dreamlike images of flowers. Accompanied by a hypnotic soundtrack, the installation transforms an act of destruction into a poetic and cathartic gesture.
Balancing beauty and violence, the work explores power, the female body, private property, public space, and environmental concerns, while questioning social conventions and offering an enduringly relevant feminist perspective.
