This exhibition highlights the collaboration and friendship between Vito Acconci (1940-2017) and Sergio Prego (b.1969). Acconci, an influential figure in video and performance art, collaborated with Prego, a Basque sculptor, whose works reflect a deep understanding of space and corporeality, much like Acconci’s own approach.
The exhibition features a subjective exploration of Acconci’s practice, with Prego’s sculptures acting as a medium for showcasing Acconci’s video works. Both artists focus on the sensory interaction between bodies, media, and architecture, where tensions and paradoxes manifest in their art. The show begins with Prego’s videos and Acconci’s sound work, followed by inflatable structures by Prego that display Acconci’s historical videos. Acconci’s works, such as Centers (1971) and Turn On (1974), use the camera provocatively to explore identity and the human body, anticipating the role of social media today. Visitors are invited to immerse themselves in a direct, sometimes uncomfortable encounter with the artists' work.
