The Film & Video gallery in the museum is a space dedicated to key works in video art, film, and the artistic languages associated with the moving image.

The first presentation in this gallery this year is There is a Law, There is a Hand, There is a Song by Alex Reynolds (b. 1978 in Bilbao, lives and works in Bilbao), which opens today. It brings together three works by the artist: The Hand that Sings (2021), Palais (2020) and Justine (2020).

Reynolds’ work is characterized by an ambitious manipulation of filmic language and an interest in exploring the relationship between its key elements: sound, rhythm, acting and storytelling, as well as the viewer’s role in them. In her work, she combines multiple registers of performance and cinema, as well as installations, texts, photographs, and conceptual pieces. The approaches and structures of cinematic codes and narrative film co-exist rather than clash in her films, enabling the artist to use cinematic conventions as material for inquiring into the interpersonal.
