Monet

22 January – 28 May 2017
FONDATION BEYELER | RIEHEN / BASEL, SWITZERLAND

To mark its 20th anniversary, the Fondation Beyeler will celebrate Claude Monet’s mastery of light and color with this major exhibition highlighted by 15 rarely-shown paintings from various private collections.

The show concentrates on Monet’s work between 1880 and the beginning of the 20th century, with a forward gaze to his late paintings and a focus on his constantly evolving treatment of light, shadow, and reflection.

With 62 paintings from leading museums (including the Musée d’Orsay, the Metropolitan Museum, the MoMA, Boston’s MFA, and Tate), Monet reveals fresh and unexpected insights into an artist whose famed pictorial worlds - Mediterranean landscapes, wild Atlantic coastal scenes, locations along the River Seine, flower meadows, haystacks, cathedrals and fog-shrouded bridges - continue to influence our visual experience of nature and landscape.
