This publication accompanies the eponymous exhibition dedicated to the presentation of Swiss artist Julian Charrière’s latest film installation, Towards No Earthly Pole (2019), at the Aargauer Kunsthaus (2020), MASI Lugano (2019/2020) and the Dallas Museum of Art (2021).

The space-filling film Towards No Earthly Pole takes visitors on a unique journey through shimmering icebergs, gaping cracks in glaciers and surging polar seas allowing them to immerse themselves in these fascinating and deserted regions in a meditative way.

This two-volume publication reflects the project‘s atmosphere, featuring a rich selection of images, installation views and film stills. It includes essays by leading scholars from the disciplines of philosophy, film studies, polar research and art history: Francesca Benini, Amanda Boetzkes, Katherine Brodbeck, Dehlia Hannah, Scott MacKenzie & Anna Westerståhl Stenport, Shane McCorristine, Nadim Samman and Katrin Weilenmann as well as a conversation between the artist and Dr. Konrad Steffen, the late Professor of Climate and Cryosphere at ETH Zurich and EPFL in Lausanne.
