Pierre Bergé (1930-2017) was one of the most important collectors of his time. Over the course of more than 50 years, he amassed a collection encompassing everything from antiquity to modern art, including paintings by Bernard Buffet, 16th and 17th century vanitas, orientalist paintings, antique furniture, Islamic, African and Asian art, and a personal library comprising books and manuscripts dating from the 15th through the 20th century. |
Reflecting their collector’s broad-ranging interests, the 800 lots for auction come from Berge’s homes in Normandy, Provence, Morocco and Paris. A significant part of the proceeds will benefit the two foundations that meant so much to him: the Pierre Bergé – Yves Saint Laurent foundation in Paris, and the Fondation Jardin Majorelle in Marrakech. |
