VAN GOGH TO PICASSO
THE THANNHAUSER LEGACY

21 SEPTEMBER 2018 - 24 MARCH 2019
GUGGENHEIM MUSEUM BILBAO | BILBAO, SPAIN

For the first time a significant portion of the celebrated Thannhauser Collection, bequeathed to the Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation, leaves New York to be exhibited elsewhere.

The exceptional exhibition will comprise 50 works by a number of the most influential Impressionists, Post-Impressionists and other modern masters, including Paul Cézanne, Edgar Degas, Édouard Manet, Pablo Picasso, and Vincent van Gogh.

The core of the famous Thannhauser collection brings to the fore the work of the avant-gardist artists who sought to liberate art from the academic genres and techniques of the late 19th century. In addition to paintings, sculptures and works on paper, the exhibition includes archival material ranging from gallery stock books to historical photographs, further documenting the Thannhauser family’s engagement with some of the most pioneering artists, collectors, and dealers of their day.
