A RESEARCH PROJECT ON THE POSTWAR CHICAGO ART SCENE

20 OCTOBER 2017 TO 15 JANUARY 2018
FONDAZIONE PRADA | MILAN, ITALY

As part of its ongoing program to offer reinterpretations of seminal moments in contemporary art history, the Milan venue of Fondazione Prada will present this research and information project on the fascinating art scene that developed in Chicago in the aftermath of World War II.

Conceived and curated by Germano Celant, the exhibition is structured around three thematic sections - "Leon Golub", "H. C. Westermann" and "Famous Artists from Chicago. 1965-1975" – all devoted to generations of artists formed in Chicago between the 50's and 60's.

The project will focus on the use of a painting style characterized by political commitment, figurative narratives and radical graphics - an approach rejected at that time by mainstream New York School, but which anticipated the new tendencies of the 80's and 90's, from Graffiti to Street Art, from wild cartoons to urban murals.
